Chimney Fires

Chimney Fires

The accumulation of combustible soot and creosote on interior surfaces is not a problem in properly designed and constructed chimneys, since the deposits are burned off as they form. In stacks that induce insufficient draft and in flues used infrequently, these buildups present a hazard. It is recommended, therefore, that during the period following initial service of a chimney and before putting a fireplace to use each season, the lining be inspected and excessive soot removed by brushing or vacuuming.
